Statistics has shown that there has been a rise in the number of people suffering from acne. Factors which attribute to this could be due to genetics, hormone changes, stressful lifestyle, unhealthy eating habits and improper skincare. Mild to moderate acnes are treated differently. In the case if you are having mild acne, you do not need any acne medicine. In fact, you can get rid of mild acne without using acne medicine. The immune system of our body can fight mild to moderate types of infections including acne so there is a big possibility that your mild acne will just go away after a few days even without you using any acne medicine. Just wash the affected area of your skin once or twice a day with very mild soap and water to keep it clean and free from any harmful substances that may cause infection. How Do I Know When To Consult A Doctor That will depend on your personal threshold level. Once you feel very uncomfortable with your acne, immediately consult your doctor. If it is a severe acne case, you should never try to apply acne medicine on your own without the direction from your doctor. This type of self-medication will not only slow down your healing process but aggravates further. The most common prescription which doctors give are benzoyl peroxide, medicated cream, lotion and gels. These are topical acne medicine used to destroy bacteria on the affected skin. Normally you will see noticeable result within few days time. If by then your acne does not clear then it is advisable for you to visit your doctor again. This could be because the bacteria is resistant to prescribed acne medicine. When simple treatments no longer work for you, the doctor may prescribe oral antibiotic together with other forms of treatments for your acne. If the acne is really big, the doctor may decide to drain them and put you on oral antibiotic for a few days. In most cases, severe acne will take sometime to cure. It could take about 6 to 8 weeks before the inflammation on your skin will clear up, so be patient. Severe acne may leave scars on the affected areas. In most cases, these scars can be effectively removed through laser treatment. If your acne caused scars and blemishes on your skin, it would be a good idea for you to talk to your dermatologist on how you can get rid of these scars and blemishes.
