You're probably tired of hearing about Britney Spears, am I right? I know I am. Seems like every time I turn on the TV, I hear about Crazy Britney and how she screwed up again. Even the magazines, movies, and late night comedians have picked up on poor ol' Britney. Well guess what? Now she's somewhere else...your department store. That's right, Britney Spears has introduced another perfume, her fourth. It's causing quite a stir, but that might not be a good thing. If you pegged me as a Britney Spears fan, try again. But, while I may not like the girl, she does have some compelling scents, and since it's not a requirement to like her, I think I'm okay. Whether or not you like them is a different story, but it's easy to find out. Just try them out. Britney Spears released four different perfumes, with the first hitting stores in late 2004. It was called Curious, and it was the number one fragrance in 2004 and 2005. Next came Fantasy, and then In Control, followed recently by Fantasy Midnight in late December of 2006. All of her perfumes have done quite well, though Midnight has reportedly not performed as well as expected. They can be purchased at local department stores or online (best price). Elizabeth Arden is the company that makes all of Britney Spears perfumes. She has given permission for her name to be used (for quite a bit of money probably), and in that area, she is definitely not alone. Paris Hilton, Elizabeth Taylor, Prince, Jennifer Lopez, and more have all given permission for their names to be used. The first Britney Spears perfume was labeled Curious. It reportedly earned over 100 million dollars following its debut and there are reports that Britney got over 10 percent of that profit. The bottle came in pink or blue and looked kind of like a deformed diamond. The scent was light, with some complaining they couldn't smell it after a few minutes, but nearly everyone surveyed agreed that they would recommend it to a friend. The second perfume to be introduced was Fantasy, and Elizabeth Arden went all out on the marketing campaign. Unfortunately, wearers of the new perfume weren't impressed and many said that marketing the scent of strawberry shortcakes turned out to be more of a fantasy than the perfume did. Also noticed - the bottle looks strangely like the Love Potion Number 9 bottle. The second youngest child of the Britney Spears perfume family smells perhaps more like Britney Spears recent image as temptress and siren. Its base is white vanilla, but then includes a blend of creme brule (I kid you not), loquat fruit, midnight orchid, sugared sandalwood and musk. Most common complaint from wearers? Smell fading after an hour of use. Midnight is the latest Britney Spears perfume and it hasn't done much better than the ones before it. Wearers complained that instead of being too weak, this one was so strong many people felt sick or nauseous after wearing it for a few hours. The scent also got harsh reviews, with comments such as grape bubblegum and grape kool-aid being the most common. As for price, look to pay about $50 to $70 dollars in your local department store. If you shop wisely, expect to pay about $30 to $50 dollars. Both of these prices are assuming you want a 3.3 oz bottle, anything less or more will change the price. Overall, I would have to say this is a contest too close to call; some people love it and some people hate it. My advice? Try it out at any department store, then head back home to buy it online.
