Stop Setting Goals! Yes, you read that right. I know that everyone who is anyone is telling you how to set and keep your goals? Even if you have failed at doing so for the last 20, 30, 40 or 50 years! I know that every success guru teaches you to set goals? But, have you ever noticed or thought about the fact that NO spiritual Scripture or Mystic teacher ever taught that? They taught living in the NOW, living in the moment. The only way goal setting works is if you see your goals as already accomplished? And have no mental, emotional or other blockages to it's manifesting. The Law of Attraction teaches us that what we Think and feel is what becomes real, even if those thoughts are currently unconscious. The problem with goal setting is that most people who set goals do so by focusing first on what they believe are missing in their lives. Make more money. Lose that weight. Get that relationship straightened out. Find the perfect job. All of this implies that I don't already have something. Enough focus on goals can actually lead to greater lack and limitation because a mentality that focuses on what's missing gets more of what's missing. Life is like a giant photocopier; it just keeps imaging back what we put out into it. When we make statements about what isn't and we focus on what's not here, we tend to see ourselves as 'not enough'. And, what we see is what we get. I'm not saying that we can't improve or change our lot in life. In fact, I am a firm believer in the words of Ernest Holmes, "Change your Thinking; Change your life." So, here's the suggestion. Actually, the inspiration for it came from a small pamphlet I read years ago called, “The Golden Key" by Emmet Fox. He suggests that whenever we perceive a 'problem' in life, we need to take our focus off the problem and use the Golden Key? Which is to focus on God. I loved that idea when I read it, but it took me awhile to make it practical. I finally found a way. A number of years ago, I was teaching a group of people in San Diego about the Qualities we inherit because we are made in the image and likeness of God. They are things like: Abundance, Beauty, Balance, Joy, Peace, Order, Wholeness, Wisdom, Unity, Love, Freedom, and Power. I invited people to choose a quality to focus on for the year RATHER than creating goals. I've been doing that every year since and the results for people who follow through on this have been amazing. You can learn more about this on my website and find multiple ideas to support your focus on your good. The idea is that we keep our attention on what we already have and it expands. "Whatever we focus on increases." This year choose a Quality you already have rather than a HAVE TO HAVE that you don't already. Stop setting goals and start seeing greater goal achievement NOW!
