Give Your Heart What It Deserves

By: Julia Pizer

With over 65 percent of the population considered obese, no doubt United States has heart disease as the number one killer disease. The numbers are rising alarmingly and the cost of health is slated to go up steeply in the near future. The trend refuses to ebb and is rapidly going from bad to worse. The government is concerned, and as a result it unveiled its new food pyramid that emphasizes on a well-balanced diet and a good deal of exercise.

The pyramid presents a new outlook on exercise and a balanced diet. It shows that all members of a food group are not equal. For instance, certain vegetables might be better for you than others, and it is not enough to just eat vegetables but you must choose the ones that agree with you. Similarly, it is not important to just count the actual servings but to know what is in those servings.

To achieve sustained weight loss in true sense you need to increase your body's metabolism. This can be achieved by reducing the size of each serving you take in and alter the traditional "3 meals a day" regime. Thus, you may consider taking three comparatively light meals with two snacks each day. This is sure to give you best results for sustained weight loss.

You may ask why keep the metabolism rate high? Metabolism is the pace at which your body engine works. If you have high metabolism rate it would need more energy to keep it going. The metabolism rate reduces when you skip meals or give long breaks between eating. Thus, the body slows the metabolism to conserve energy. However, if you eat meals more often and in smaller amounts the metabolism will keep good pace and lead to a sustained weight loss.

You can increase your metabolism by physical exercise. Weight lifting is extremely beneficial for the heart and body because muscles burn more energy than any other tissue in your body. The basic principle is that the larger your muscles, the more energy you will burn throughout the day and that will help to maintain higher metabolism.

Apart from work outs, aerobic exercises such as jogging, biking, cross-country skiing and swimming also help maintain a strong heart and healthy body. You may not do them daily. In fact, it is best to perform aerobic exercises three days a week for about thirty minutes for best results. If you push too hard, you may land up with injuries that will discourage you from exercise altogether.

Having half an ounce of water for every pound you weigh is the best thing you can do to your heart and health. Water is the best natural purifier that helps remove toxins from your body. So if you want to keep healthy have plenty of water each day. If you want to reap benefits of good health in future you must take good care of your heart. It will lower your medical costs, lead to more hygienic living and make you feel better about your self. Do not add to bad health statistics. Make your lifestyle healthier and more fulfilling with better heart condition.
