How Setting Goals Helps You Achieve Them

By: Mike McMahon

There are those who are bound by laws and rules, yet success is still distant for them. On the other hand, there are those who appear to be easy going people but they are successful.

Do you have what it takes to be successful? Are you willing to do what it takes to be successful or would you rather make excuses? The answer to that question has everythgin to do with how good you will be at setting goals.

So what happens when go about setting goals? Basically they represent your thoughts about what you want to achieve or be in the future. To be achievable goals should be realistic.

When setting goals keeping them realistic makes your chances of achieving them much more likely. But it takes more than just setting goals you must take action. Otherwise success would be something you could have without any effort and that isn't how it works.

The key to achieving your goals is acting as if you have already achieved them. In other words you must act the way you goals dictate. Just setting goals isn't enough because if you are not willing to do the work necessary to reach your goal than you might as well stop before you even start.

1. Greatly improve your ability to hit your goals by having measurable objectives. You should also have some optional activities that can help move you towards you goals as well. The key to success when setting goals is making them measurable and believable

2. Be brave and push past your comfort zone. Take the time to strategically plan your steps to reach your goal and don't worry about the fact that you might be a little uncomfortable. Assess your options and work around the obstacles with the idea that there is always a way when you are setting your goals.

3. Act consistent with your goals. Your mindset is critical for successfully achieving the goals that you set. Be persistent and without being reckless take chances. Don't be afraid to step outside your comfort zone it's how we grow. You should be willing to do things you've never done before when you are setting your goals.

Setting goals isn't just for the unsuccessful. Everyone benefits when they take the time to put a plan in place and then the take steps to work towards that plan. Successful people will be highly successful if up till now they have just enjoyed natural success and have never before taken the time to plan it.

Setting goals means that you are acknowledging your limitations and you are ready to work your way up towards success, professionally or personally. It is for this reason why objective goals matter.

As you progress keep in mind that some goals by there very nature require the help of others. Sometimes you may lose hope and you might want to give up. Don't worry that's normal and also why you go through setting goals. Don't give in. Be persistent you are probably on the verge of a breakthrough.

If when setting goals you have chosen a particularly difficult goal and you think that giving up is the best option, why not look for a partner, a friend who is willing to help you with your goals? Collaborate with your partner and learn to prioritize. If it requires spending time in plotting all the possibilities, both the pros and cons, do it.

Remember that setting goals is focused on your benefits. So try working things out and focus, focus, and focus. Minimize or avoid distractions if possible so you can work your goals better. Work that proper mindset for a clearer vision of you having already achieved those valuable goals. If you are vying for promotion in your workplace, it is important that you see yourself already in the position you want.

Whether your goal is personal, educational or professional it's a lot easier to achieve it if you plan activities that relate to your goal. As you achieve success it will become easier setting goals since you will have learned that the process works. Each success makes the next success that much easier to reach. The only difference between a successful individual and a failure is that the failure stopped before they reached success.
