Premature Ejaculation Problems And The Causes

By: Steve Armstrong

It's a common male problem and has afflicted many men over the years - Premature Ejaculation. The medical community have yet to establish an exact cause of this problem.

It used to be the case that experts believed premature ejaculation was the result of deep rooted psychological problems in the back of a mans mind that had an affect on their love making. This idea had been widely discredited and replaced by the belief that both biological and psychological factors play a part.

The medical profession has been so far unable to pinpoint exact causes when dealing with an individual case. The result is that treatments for the problem have tended to adopt a scattergun approach to focus on both psychological and biological factors.

Added to that there is the belief that erectile dysfunction plays a part in many mens problems.

At last there is good news for sufferers. A host of treatments have been developed to successfully cure the condition and these include pharmaceuticals, psychological counseling and sexual techniques or exercises. The aim of these is to give a man better control over his orgasm and for most, a combination of techniques will give the best results.

What follows is an explanation of the tell tale signs, symptoms, causes and risks that all cause the condition. This can be used to assess your own problems - either current or potential.

Signs and symptoms There is no hard and fast rule as to how long it should take for a man to reach orgasm, therefore we don't really know what is normal. Experts tend to agree that the definition of premature ejaculation is when a man reaches the point of ejaculation before he wants to, in most of his experiences. This may be either during masturbation or any other sexual encounter, though it may only be limited to experiences with other persons. Two types of premature ejaculation have been identified by experts:

1.Primary Premature Ejaculation -- If you have always suffered from premature ejaculation ever since you have been sexually active.

2.Secondary Premature Ejaculation -- If you have not always suffered from premature ejaculation, but only after you enjoyed previously satisfying sexual encounters without such problems.

While the experts have ruled out psychological factors as the sole reason for premature ejaculation, they have not yet reached the point where they can diagnose a specific cause for each individual. However, there have been great strides made in treating the biological and psychological factors that cause the problem. There are four basic psychological causes that can cause premature ejaculation. These are:

1. Instances when the man had to rush to reach orgasm as he didn't want to be caught int he act by another person.

2. Strong feelings of guilt that make a man rush through his sexual encounters.

3. Men who suffer from erectile dysfunction and worry too much about whether they can stay hard throughout the sexual encounter. This may also establish a pattern where a man rushes to ejaculate while he still has an erection.

4. Men who suffer with anxiety, especially with regard to sexual performance or other matters.

In addition, there are also six basic biological causes that can lead to premature ejaculation. These are:

1.Hormone that is not normal

2.Abnormal levels of brain chemicals called neurotransmitters

3.Abnormal reflex activity of the ejaculatory system

4.Certain thyroid problems

5.Infection and inflammation of the urethra or prostate

6.Inherited traits or conditions

Some doctors think that lifelong Primary Premature Ejaculation is most often a result of biological causes.

In addition, some other rare causes of premature ejaculation can include the following:

1.Damage caused to the nervous system by trauma or surgery

2.Withdrawal from certain drugs - such as narcotics or anxiety drugs such as trifluoperazine.

Risk Factors In conclusion, there are some factors than tend to increase the risk of premature ejaculation. These include:

1.Impotence -- Having problems getting or maintaining an erection often leads to premature ejaculation. By some estimates, one of three men suffering from premature ejaculation also have impotence problems.

2.Health problems -- Some medical conditions may make a man feel anxious about sex, such as a heart disorders, and compel him to rush through sex.

3.Stress -- Feeling stressed about other areas of your life can limit your ability to relax and lead to premature ejaculation.

4.Medications -- There are some drugs that can naturally cause premature ejaculation.
