If a person walking through the bushes runs across a poisonous snake or any other dangerous animal, his/her normal reaction would be to panic and to run away from the beast as quickly as possible. If the same feelings of panic and horror come along with no logical reasons and if they occur in a completely secure environment (while jogging on the beach or enjoying a football game at the local stadium) you do not have to be a doctor to realize that something is wrong with your health. Experiencing a few of such episodes in relatively short time frame (a few weeks or months) can be a sign that the person has developed panic disorder. At the very beginning the patients become extremely scared and baffled. The non psychological signs of panic disorder which could include palpitations, nausea, shortness of breath, dizziness, excessive sweating, jelly legs etc. make the patient to believe that something entirely different is going on inside their bodies. People usually ask for help at the wrong places. They visit a whole army of various medical specialists undergoing countless examinations because they are almost certain that the problem is with their heart, lungs, blood pressure and so on. The mental health professional is usually last on their list to visit. While going through the panic attack sufferers could believe that they have some kind of the life threatening illness, they are going to faint on the spot, going mad or to lose control of themselves. Panic attack may occur every time when the patients find themselves in a specific situation or it can just hit without a clear cause regardless of the situation. A big number of patients suffering from panic disorder sometimes develop agoraphobia (fear of open or crowded surroundings from which in a case of panic attack would be hard to run away or to seek and receive help.) Panic attacks can even occur during the sleep. Hottish weather also plays a role in panic disorder because patients experience more panic attacks during the warm summer months. The main reasons for this are that hot weather accelerates pulse, induces dizziness and dehydration. Also, during these months people are more likely to spend their time outdoors so there is a much bigger chance of running into unfamiliar and dreadful situations and surroundings. Despite the fact that the real causes of panic disorder are unknown, some studies have shown that certain groups of people are more likely to suffer of this disorder than the rest of the population. This group includes people who are timid by nature and whose tendency is to be worried and over concerned about every aspect of their lives. They continuously analize their own abilities and are always unsure if they are good enough to finish their tasks and responsibilities. The signs of their insecurity and fears are often noticeable from their early years (blushing, palm sweating, palpitations, not feeling comfortable in front of older, unfamiliar people or when confronted by authorities.) Those children spend a lot of time daydreaming and imagining things and possess no agonistic spirit and behavior. While sleeping they might also experience nightmares and have accidents with bed wetting. Their perception of other people is kind of naive because they cannot see the hidden intentions of nasty people. Even after repetitive and countles disappointments they do not modify their behavior. It is essential to remember that panic disorder is very common mental health problem in our population. Although people that show some of the previously mentioned symptoms in their childhood are in greater risk of being affected by panic disorder later on in their lives, not everyone will. On the contrary, some very strong people that are energetic and have no apparent obstacles in their lives could be hit by this condition with no warnings or a reasonable explanation.
