Staying Fit On VacationBy: Chris McCombsFew things can destroy a fitness plan like a vacation. It’s great to get some time to relax, but spending a week or more sitting around while eating junk can reverse weeks of progress. But just by paying a little extra attention to what you are eating and doing, you can have a fun time at a great destination while still staying true to your goals. While traveling to your destination, avoid mindless eating. Often vacationers have to sit for hours in a plane or car, and to pass the time they munch on whatever is at hand. Before you know it, you’ve consumed hundreds of fat-soaked calories and have nothing to show for it but a huge dent in your diet and an empty bag of potato chips. While riding in a car or plane, always be conscious of what you are putting in your mouth and find other ways to keep yourself occupied, like reading a book watching movies on a portable DVD player. In you must much on something, opt for unbuttered popcorn. It’s not only light on calories, but can be surprisingly filling. If you eat out at a restaurant while on vacation, feel free to ask the waiter about the nutritional information of their meals. If you find that everything at your particular eatery is either covered in thick butter or cooked in lard (which can sometimes be the case), you might just be better off getting a salad. Try to get a spinach or romaine salad, as they offer more nutrients than most other salad greens. It also doesn’t hurt to throw in some chicken or egg whites for protein. For dressing, get oil and vinegar instead of creamy dressings like blue cheese. But what should you do to get some exercise in? Well, you might see if you can make exercise an actual part of your vacation by exploring bike trails, going rock climbing, or taking a long walking tour. If this isn’t an option, you should try packing some portable resistance tubing and a jump rope into your luggage. When you have a few minutes to yourself in the hotel room, spend some time jumping rope for cardio and attach the tubes to a closed door to get your strength training in. Alternatively, you can familiarize yourself with exercises that require no equipment. For leg exercises, you can do one leg squats. To do this, just balance yourself on one leg, and then squat down as low as you can, pause, and raise yourself back up. For upper body work, you can do pushups. If you need something a bit more challenging, try one-armed push-ups. For more upper body work, a sturdy hotel door is a great place to do chin ups. It’s probably unreasonable to expect anybody to maintain the same level of exercise intensity and diet limitations they experience during a normal week while on vacation, but even getting a little exercise in when you can while help stay at least slightly on track and more motivated to get up to speed when you arrive back home. What Do You Eat and Drink: Diet Cancer LinksBy: Jessy SimpsonRecently there has been a great awareness to the relationship between the diet we eat and cancer. This is especially important since unlike many other risk factors for cancer this is a very much controllable risk factor. Many are interested in knowing the relationship between specific foods, or nutrients, and specific types of cancers. There has been extensive research done on this topic but till this date no study provides the last word on this topic. Any new research finding has to be evaluated in the larger context of available evidence so it is not advisable that you make any diet modifications based on single studies published. Alcohol cancer link Findings from various research publications have established that consumption of alcoholic beverages would increase the risk of cancer. Alcohol increases the risk of development of various cancers including cancers of the mouth, pharynx, larynx, esophagus, liver, and breast, and probably of the colon and rectum. It should be pointed out here that moderate amount of alcohol consumption has been shown to decrease the risk of having a heart attack. So it is suggested that those who are drinking alcohol should do this in moderation. It is recommended that men limit their alcohol intake to a maximum of two drinks per day and women should limit their alcohol consumption to a maximum of one drink per day. It should be mentioned that the combination of alcohol and tobacco have a much greater impact on cancer risk compared to use of one of these agents. Women who are at high risk of developing breast cancer may be suggested to abstain from drinking any alcoholic beverages. Antioxidants and cancer protection Some of the products of normal metabolism could have a damaging effect on the tissues and such damages could increase the risk of developing cancer. Some nutrients called antioxidants are very essential to protect the body from harmful metabolic products that are produced in the body. These antioxidants are present in various fruits and vegetables. These antioxidants include vitamin C, vitamin E, carotenoids, and some phytochemicals. This is consistent with the observation that people, who eat more vegetables and fruits, may have a lower risk for some types of cancer. Antioxidant supplementation has not been proven to decrease cancer risk and more studies are underway in this regard. The best advice would be to consume plenty of fruits and vegetables to decrease the risk of many cancers. Aspartame cancer link Aspartame is used in many of the low calorie beverages as an artificial sweetener. There has been some controversy about the risk of aspartame with regard to increasing risk of cancer but the current evidence does not support any link between aspartame consumption and increased cancer risk. Beta-carotene and cancer protection Beta-carotene, is an antioxidant and is chemically related to vitamin A. This antioxidant is found in abundance in vegetables and fruits. For some time scientists believed that high doses of beta-carotene supplements might reduce cancer risk. Recently published studies suggest that this may not be true. In two of these studies it was shown high dose of beta-carotene actually increases the risk of cancer and the third study found neither benefit nor harm from them. Consuming vegetables and fruits that contain beta-carotene may still be helpful, but high-dose beta-carotene supplements should not be taken. Climate changes seem to affect many people and they just can't understand why they tend to feel gloomy and miserable. This mood disorder is called winter depression, or Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). According to Norman E. Rosenthal, the doctor who coined the term SAD in 1984, winter depression has a sound medical basis that involves changes in the body's mood centers brought on by shorter daylight hours and a lack of sunlight. Most depressive illness sufferers experience a sense of utter isolation and loneliness. But the fact that many people go through the same grumpiness during this time of the year provides a sense of comfort and assurance that they are not alone. As the cliché goes “misery loves company.” Based on statistics of SAD Association, 500,000 people in the United Kingdom experience some form of winter depression, while doctors have estimated that 20% of the population, or almost 2 million people, are affected in Sweden by this condition. One of the most effective and clinically proven treatment for SAD is “light therapy”, which has been shown to benefit some 80-85 percent of SAD cases. Simple as it may sound, the treatment actually involves more than just turning on a light and sitting beside it while twiddling your thumbs as you wait for that renewed energy to “power up” your whole well-being. The average domestic or office light emits a paltry 200-500 lux (a lux is a unit of illuminance,) whereas a minimum of 2,500 lux is required to alleviate the symptoms of SAD. In comparison, a clear summer's day can reach an intensity of 100,000 lux. Based on these specs, a number of specially designed light boxes have been invented that emit precisely the right amount of illumination. Symptoms of SAD gradually subside by sitting in front of one for about 30 minutes to several hours, depending on the severity of the condition. Light therapy may be the best treatment for SAD as far as symptoms are concerned. However, addressing the root causes of the condition may involve both anti-depressant drugs and psychotherapy treatments especially for those with severe symptoms. Studies have shown that the incidence of SAD increases dramatically as you go 30 degrees of latitude further north or south, as the condition is virtually unheard of in the tropical countries. A movement or vacation trip to these countries in the equator may sound impractical but can definitely improve ones mood and well-being. Watching movies that feature warm, sunny, summery climates show demonstrable improvements in mood. Research shows that any film with clear blue cloudless skies, palm trees and an absence of snow should qualify for a movie therapy. The same mood-enhancing effect may result by simply watching outdoor sports like cricket or golf. However, over-exposure to snooker, darts, and indoor bowling has been found to bring on a state of depressive, trance-like catatonia that, in severe cases, culminates in complete mental health breakdown. An Attitude Change Is The Biggest Change You Will Ever MakeBy: Gary M. MillerYou may have heard it said before that an attitude change is easy. All you have to do is change everything about yourself. As crazy as it seems, it’s the truth. A change in your attitude will eventually involve everything about you. It’s easy and yet, the fact that you have to keep at it day after day after day is what makes it really hard. An attitude change requires a long term perseverance that few people have. That’s what makes it the biggest change you will ever make. Attitude changes typically take place when something monumental happens in a person’s life that suddenly makes them see everything differently. This may be a near-death experience or some kind of tragedy that they weren’t expecting. People begin to see that life is extremely fragile and they begin to think that maybe the real meaning of life is contained in something other than the things they used to value so much. They begin to change their values to and to approach life from a new perspective about what is truly important. It doesn’t have to be a tragedy or a near-death experience, however, which brings this about. An attitude change can take place simply because you decide that you want to make yourself into a better person and you are determined to make that happen. One of the most common reasons for bringing about an attitude change, besides a tragedy or near-death experience is the simple fact that a person becomes fed up with the life they have been living. They no longer see themselves as a worthwhile individual and they want to feel good about themselves again. Maybe it was just a little thing that went wrong in their life but it was somehow the straw that broke the camel’s back and now they are ready to really change their life. How do they get serious about this plan and make themselves actually stick to the new changes that they have in mind for themselves? What do they need to do to actually make this attitude change a reality? One of the best ways to really make your attitude change stick is to join a group and make a commitment to go to that group several times a week in order to remind yourself about the changes you are trying to make. Other people can do wonders for your attitude and make you stick to the promises you have made for yourself simply because you feel more support from other people when you join a group. It really doesn’t matter who the people are in the group and whether you like them or not. This is not how an attitude change works. The change takes place because you make a commitment to make friends with some new people who are trying to do the same thing as you are trying to do; i.e. improve you life! You go to the group, not because the people are so great or you love them so much. You go to the group because you are trying to make yourself a better person and you know that you can’t really do it on your own. This is called humility and it is a primary ingredient in bringing about an attitude change in anyone. You have to be able to admit that you can’t do everything on your own. People don’t become educated doctors or lawyers on their own. They go to school and classes to achieve this. Similarly, you can’t change your attitude and become a new person on your own. You need other people! If you are serious about making an attitude change in yourself, you will make a commitment to join a group and start working toward your goal with others who are also interested in the same thing. There are thousands of groups out there and you can find one that fits the interests you have to make a change. Attitude change is easy but it takes concerted effort over a long period of time. What better way to devote yourself to this long term goal than to try out a new group and make a commitment to help out each week. You will surely be on the road to success once you have made that decision! This is one question the answer to which every guy wants to know. Do you know that most girls fake it most of the times and never have a real orgasm? Do you know the major reason why most girls do not feel the same with sex after a while and tend to fake orgasms? Most men do not know how to act and behave in bed to give girls that perfect ultimate orgasm which drives her to wanting more and more from you. Read on to find out some of the best ways by which you can give a girl an orgasm and achieve incredible results in bed. Mental seduction- This is one of the most important aspects of giving a girl an orgasm. If a girl does not involve her mind than she can never involve her body. Therefore the very first step into giving a girl an orgasm is to make her mentally involved with you. The mind has the ultimate control over the whole human body and mind is responsible for human orgasms. The perfect example of this is when most people masturbate; they tend to think of several sexual situations, making love or just a romantic atmosphere. If thoughts can make you orgasm while masturbating they can surely make you orgasm during real sex. Remember a good combination of the mind and body is extremely important to give a girl an orgasm. Maintenance step- The very next step towards giving a girl an orgasm is to maintain that mental state and connection you have formed with her. The best way to connect mentally with almost any girl is to discuss in detail how much you love her and what she means to you. Girls never orgasm unless they have emotions involved in the whole act. Therefore make it a point to show affection and it's also good to discuss fantasies and what you would prefer and like to do to satisfy her in bed. The ultimate moment- Mere words of love are enough to turn any girl on and when you feel the moment is perfect take a step further and engage into physical activities with her. Start with slight kissing and make it a point to do a lot of foreplay. Doing a lot of foreplay builds her hunger and she would have stronger orgasms thereby wanting more and more from you. How good are you in bed? - Do you have what it takes to satisfy women in bed? Do you know what every woman wants bed? Ever tried to wonder what's in a woman's mind? What is she thinking about?
