How To Diet To Lose Weight And Keep It Off

By: Denise Sears

Losing Weight and keeping it off can be a constant battle. Finding a diet to lose weight is a topic that is always being discussed. There are always diets circulating that claim to be ‘the last diet you will ever need‘.

Claims and promises mean nothing, though, if the diet to lose weight doesn’t do the job. There is a lot of talk about metabolism and how we each process foods differently.

The bottom line is finding a diet to lose weight that will help you not only slim down, but also keep the weight off. The answer comes down to consuming fewer calories than you burn.

This may seem too simple, but the secret to a diet to lose weight is basic science. When your body burns all the calories that you have eaten it starts burning fat.

A diet to lose weight that is based on this rule will allow a person to lose weight and keep it off. It is that simple. Setting up the diet comes down to a few mathematical figures.

Each one of us burns calories at our own pace. The number of calories each person burns is dependent upon their activity level and their basal metabolic rate or BMR. Using your BMR you can create a diet to lose weight based on sound science.

The BMR is the number of calories naturally burned by just being alive. A person's BMR is based on the following factor: genetics, gender, age, weight, diet, physical activity and body fat. A recommended site for more weight loss information is: http://4-best-weight-loss.com

To figure your BMR you can use online calculators or try a rough estimate. There is also a formula called the Harris-Benedict formula. The following explains how to figure your BMR based on this formula:

Men: Multiply weight in pounds by 6.23
Multiply height in inches by 12.7
Multiply age by 6.8

Now add the figures for weight and height together and then subtract the figure for age from that total.

Women: Multiply weight in pounds by 4.35
Multiply height in inches by 4.7
Multiply age by 4.7

Now add the figures for weight and height together and then subtract the figure for age from that total.

The next step is to use the BMR you got from this formula to figure how many calories a day you need to maintain your weight. To do this follow the following chart:

Activity Level: Multiply BMR by:

Little or no exercise - 1.2
Light exercise 1 to 3 days a week - 1.375
Moderate exercise 3 to 5 days a week - 1.55
Active exercise 6 to 7 days a week - 1.725
Extreme exercise every day of the week - 1.9

This gives you how many calories you need to stay at your current weight. You need to design a diet to lose weight that has less than this number of calories.

A pound of fat is equal to 3500 calories, so in order to lose a pound your diet needs to be reduced by 3500 calories. It is advised not to try to lose more than a pound a week. Exercise can also be substituted in to help burn calories.

A healthy diet to lose weight will reduce daily calorie intake and include plenty of healthy foods. It is possible for a person to continue eating the foods they love.

The key for a diet to lose weight to succeed is not depriving yourself of favorite foods. Instead, just adjust your calorie intake to allow for weight loss and watch the pounds come off. About the author:

Benefits of Probiotics

By Jason Cantone

Nutritionally supports intestinal health.*

Helps cleanse the digestive system.*

Provides you with "friendly" bacteria you need to support a favorable environment for the absorption of nutrients.*
"Probiotics" are microorganisms that are essential for the proper functioning of the digestive tract.* Commonly referred to as the "friendly," "beneficial," or "good" bacteria, probiotics are known for their ability to support a favorable environment for nutrient absorption, encourage intestinal balance and promote the health of the intestines.*

When microorganism levels are depleted or imbalanced, they have an effect on digestive health, as well as on other systems directly linked to the digestive tract, including the immune, gastrointestinal and urinary systems. Supplementing with probiotic bacteria helps to keep bacteria levels balanced.* Although foods such as yogurt offer probiotic bacteria, they do not deliver high enough concentration amounts per serving to achieve health benefits. Probiotic supplements deliver high concentration levels to effectively keep the bacteria levels balanced, the digestive tract regulated, and other body systems healthy.*

Most digestion takes place in the intestines, so it's important to maintain intestinal health - taking a probiotic supplement is a great way to do this.* Probiotic bacteria is well-established for its beneficial effects on intestinal well-being.* A popular type of probiotic is an Acidophilus supplement, which is a natural form of probiotic bacteria that nutritionally supports your digestive system.* In addition to maintaining a healthy balance of intestinal flora, Acidophilus supplements help maintain a healthy intestinal tract by making its contents slightly more acidic.* Acidophilus can be important for adults who are taking antibiotics like penicillin, because penicillin may decrease healthy bacteria in the intestinal tract.*^

Probiotics have been recognized for their beneficial effects on human health since Metchnikoff described their usage while working at the Pasteur Institute in the early 1900s. Researchers are uncovering more information every day about the positive role probiotic microbes play in keeping people healthy.

Parking Space

The old gent was backing his Rolls into the last available parking space when
a zippy red sports car whipped in behind him to take the spot.

The young driver jumped out and said: "Sorry Pops, but you've got to be young
and smart to do that."

The old man ignored the remark and kept reversing until the Rolls had crunched
the sports car into a crumpled heap.

"Sorry son, you've got to be old and rich to do that!"

What Does Your Label Say?

By: Jason Osborn

One of the easiest things to do when talking to someone is to start exchanging battle stories with them!

It simply begins by telling them about a time in your life when you went through something that you thought was devastating and how it either ruined you or how you overcame it.

Almost before you can complete your story, the other person jumps in and always seems to try to one up you with their own battle story.

Before you know it, you are in a conversation that seems to last forever because both of you are trying to outdo the other one with your stories.

If the truth be told, everyone in this world has a story to tell. Some of these stories end in tragedy and some in triumph. The sad thing is that, whether their tragedy was in the past, or they are currently experiencing a tragedy, they don’t realize that they still have the ability to turn it into a victory.

They are so focused on proving to the world that they have been done wrong, or that they are owed something for what they have gone through, they never realize that the world is slipping by.

Which category do you fall in?

Are you focused on your wounds and scars or have you been able to overcome them and succeed in life?

The other day, someone I know bought a leather couch. There was a tag on it and I found it to be very interesting. The tag said this:

“This product is not faulty or damaged. All the markings, scaring, and discolorations on this product are normal and enhance its natural beauty.”

In your own life, do you have a tag that reads like that or does your tag read more like this:

“This product has been unjustly damaged. All the markings, scaring, and discolorations on this product are the result of it being victimized. This is not normal and in no way enhances its natural beauty.”

I know that you may have had some very terrible things happen to you in your lifetime. But believe it or not, you have the ability to live your life with greatness and victory. You have the choice what your label says about you. You have the choice whether that label is a label of success or defeat.

You see, every scar, every mark, every burn has the potential to help change the lives of the people around you. How many other people have gone through similar circumstances and need someone like you to say to them:

See here, I’ve gone through the same thing. Here is my scar to prove it. I was able to overcome it and now I have greatness and success in my life. If I could do it, so can you.

Remember that greatness never comes easy. If it did, then everyone would reach their full purpose in life.

If you choose to, everything you have ever gone through, and everything that you will go through, has the potential to help you impact the lives of many other people in a positive way.

So what do you want your label to say?

Diabetes Warning Signs

By: Bob Alexander

I was in a Wal Mart store when I discovered I had diabetes.  I had had my semi annual blood work done two days before and my doctor was calling to tell me that my blood tests showed that my blood sugar level was a little over five hundred. I knew this was something serious because he had never called me before about anything!  Calmly I asked him what the normal reading should be and he said around seventy.  I hadn't realized that I was sick!

Actually, I hadn't been feeling so great for the last month.  I was unusually tired all the time, even when I had had a restful day.  My energy was gone and I couldn't figure out why.    Little did I know that my blood sugar was way out of range.

My wife had told me to see a doctor just the week before.  It wasn't my physical help she was concerned about at the time, but my mental state.  She said that my mood swings were driving her nuts.  I argued of course, there wasn't anything wrong with my moods.  I thought I was always on an even keel emotionally, all sweetness and understanding.  She thought otherwise. Looking back, I can see where I had begun showing symptoms of diabetes, but at the time I didn't take them seriously.

One problem I had was frequent urination.  It was driving me nuts, because it seemed like I was going to the bathroom every twenty minutes, whether I had had anything to drink or not!  It was worse at night.  I was getting up in the morning already tired from lack of sleep the night before.   Also I was losing weight even though I was eating more because of the late night snacks when I got up to go to the bathroom at all hours of the night.

Another symptom of type 2 diabetes, or adult onset diabetes, is that any cuts or sores you have on your body are extremely slow in healing. About a month before my visit to the lab for blood work, I had had dental surgery.   A month passed and I was still hurting and having infections.  I was visiting my dentist at least once a week.  The antibiotics he prescribed were not working and the pain pills kept upsetting my stomach.  The dentist couldn't understand why I was not healing, but he must have suspected something because he asked me one time if I was a diabetic.  At the time, I told him I was not!

My biggest concern at the time was with blurred vision.  I thought it was because I hadn't had my glasses changed in about 2 years and it was time I visited the eye doctor. Later my family doctor explained the problem in language I could understand.  He said, "When your blood sugar is out of range the sugar crystals adhere to the lens of your eyes, therefore blurring your vision."  I'm sure the medical interpretation of my problem would be a little more precise, but that was enough to scare me into taking him seriously.

Diabetes is not something to take lightly.  It can get ugly pretty fast.  There are other warning signs such as itching of the skin usually around the groin or vaginal area, impotency dry mouth.  If you are having some or all or these symptoms, hurry to a doctor.  Diabetes can be a nasty disease, but it can be controlled.  Look for the symptoms.

3 Love Making Tips for Married Couples

By Susie Collins and Otto Collins

Since you've probably been making love with each other for a number of years and wonder why you need to read an article about love-making, you may be in for a few surprises if you do.

There might be a few things that you've forgotten along the way and there might be a few things that you might want to try that are new.

So here goes a few love making tips just for you...

1. Make time for love and romance. Time can certainly slip away from you and you can put love making on the back burner, figuring you'll get to it when things calm down. If you're like most people, you have to make time for what's important in your life. If intimate time with your partner is important to you, make time for it. If being spontaneous never seems to work out, schedule a "love date" and then don't allow "life" to get in the way.

2. If you don't feel like making love, say so, but be honest with your partner and yourself why you don't feel like it. Sounds simple but sometimes it isn't. Very often, physical ailments-real or imagined-are allowed to interfere with being intimate. Sometimes you just are too tired and love making is the furthest thing from your mind. Whatever the case, be honest with your partner and then make a "date" when you know that you'll feel better or have more time to devote to each other. Don't use the old "I have a headache" excuse when you are really feeling disconnection from your partner. Deal with the issue and you'll feel better.

3. Focus on each other and not on the kids or your work. Clear your mind from extraneous thoughts, worries and fears when you come together for love-making. If it isn't possible to do that, tell your partner that you need some time and then take a walk to clear your head. You may need to talk about some problem or clear up some issue with your partner. Do it and then focus on how much you love each other.

There are many other things you can do to create more passion in your love making and increase your connection. It takes learning some new skills and creating some new ways of being together.
