The Secret To Successfully Quit SmokingBy: Chris Chashesh400,000 shiney, new caskets will be purchased this year for cigarette smokers dying 12 years before their time. If your'e wantng a healthier, longer lasting life, the steps to getting there include giving up your deadly nicotine habbit. Ha! If it were so easy... It is, insists this journalist. A newly discovered, ingenious way to stop smoking is revealed in this article. Read on to learn what the big tobacco companies, pharmaceutical companies and therapists around the world don't want you to know. First you must think about quitting. Did you know millions of parents still continue to smoke around their children knowing that cigarettes are filled with harmful poisons? Besides the fact that this sets a bad example, children who's parents smoke are more likely to smoke themselves when they get older, chemicals from ciggarette smoke linger in the air for hours after a ciggarette has been smoked. Even if you can't smell it, the chemicals stay in the air and poision anyone who breaths them in. Your children, your pets... cats - smoke sticks to their fur that they lick clean. A few of the chemicals added to ciggarettes are:
There's over 400 chemicals found in ciggarette smoke, with every puff, people are inhaling these poisonous chemicals and creating second-hand smoke for others. Now make a list of reasons why you want to become a non smoker. Hang the list on your bathroom mirror as a daily reminder. The next thing you must do is visualize yourself never smoking again. Not one cigarette, ever. You must be absolutely serious as you are making a life changing decision. Once you pick the day you choose to start, you must continue to visualize your new life as an ex smoker. It will be rough at first. Remove all reminders of cigarettes, ash tray, lighters... friends who smoke around you. Your new action will be researching the effects of cigarettes on the human body. Use the internet, read some books, look at lots of pictures of lungs and heavy smokers who are using holes in their throats. How bad do you need that nicotine? It's a challenging habit to break, but not impossible. Lots of people do it every day. Remember, you're going to be changing the chemical in your body. It's an uncomfortable process, to say the least. Drink lots of bottled water and cranberry juice. Reconize what causes you to think about a cigarette. Another person lighting up, finishing a meal, waking up... Realize when your going through a withdrawl, your body is clensing itself of nicotine and you are becoming healthier. These are the steps in a path to a smoke free life that many have taken before. When you make the serious commitment to yourself to stop smoking, don't let anything hold you back. This is your time, spend it in good health. Chris Kashesh Ex-Smoker 10 Most Common Toxins In The Human BodyBy: Sid McCarthyOver a lifetime (or in the case of an ecological disaster, an alarmingly short time), the human body assimilates a number of toxins. Some of these are in such trace amounts that we really needn't worry about them, but it is still wise to avoid as many toxins in the diet and the environment as possible. Here are ten of the most common toxins found in human blood and cells: Free Radicals These are the toxic waste products of the process of oxidation within our bodies. Oxidation (like rust on iron) is what causes the deterioration of cells, like a bruised apple when it goes brown and mushy. This goes on at a cellular level within the human body and accelerates the aging process. The effects of free radicals can be reduced by the consumption of anti-oxidant-rich red, orange and yellow fruits and vegetables, along with increasing our exercise and eating less. Mercury The commonest sources of Mercury are amalgam fillings and the eating of large marine fish such as tuna. Mercury is implicated in Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's, heart failure, irregular heartbeat and even some cancers. There is debate as to whether it is worthwhile to have amalgam fillings removed and replaced. Similarly, the health benefits of eating oily marine fish should be weighed carefully against the risks of mercury consumption. Sugar Refined sugar is known as "the white death". We all know it's bad for us, that it contains calories without nutrients. Too much of it can cause insulin resistance, diabetes. The answer is simple; eat less white sugar. Caffeine Many people enjoy caffeinated drinks and find that they give them a much-needed "high" in times of fatigue. Don't forget that caffeine is quite a powerful drug and taking yourself off it can cause quite severe withdrawal symptoms. Some people are "allergic" to caffeine and it can cause irrational mood swings and exacerbation of PMS, even heartbeat irregularities. Best to wean yourself off it. C-Reactive Protein Perhaps it is wrong to consider this a toxin in itself, but its presence in the blood is an indicator of inflammation in the body. A high reading of C-Reactive Protein in the blood can indicate a propensity to heart attack. It is elevated by infections, inflammatory conditions, insulin resistance, and certain hormones such as those in the contraceptive pill or HRT. It is thought that a preventative dose of aspirin may be effective in reducing the level of C-Reactive Protein. Cholesterol A buildup of LDL (low-density lipoprotein) or "bad" cholesterol in the blood is implicated in heart disease via hardening of the arteries. Avoid high cholesterol by eating less saturated fats, exercising regularly, eating supplements rich in plant sterols or (as a last resort) Statins (prescribed cholesterol-lowering drugs). Cortisol This is produced by the body at times of worry and stress, therefore it is commonly called the stress hormone. Eliminate cortisol by exercising, laughing, relaxing, enjoying a hobby and not allowing your own personal stresses to fester and thrive within you! Pesticides We encounter these in our own gardens (unless we garden totally organically) and on most bought fruits and vegetables. At least trace amounts are probably found in most people's bodies. Either buy organic or make sure you thoroughly wash any fruit and veg you buy. Dioxins These are unwanted byproducts of heating processes and can increase cancer risks. They are suspected as contributory factors in diabetes, low sperm counts and behavioral problems. They are everywhere so it is hard to avoid them on an individual level. Buying organic produce and avoiding saturated animal fats (which tend to harbor dioxins) may help. Homocysteine Homocysteine is an amino acid. It can contribute to the risks of heart disease, Alzheimer's, furring of the arteries, toxicity in pregnancy, or even birth defects. Its build-up can be caused by kidney disease, genetics or vitamin deficiencies. Supplementation of Vitamins B12, B6 and Folic Acid may be wise. These vitamins enable the conversion of homocysteine into less dangerous amino-acids in the body. We are all exposed to toxins in the environment and our food over our lifetimes. Some are easy to avoid, others less so. Clean living and regular detox programs are probably the best we can do to avoid overexposure to toxins. Hidden Aspirin Facts - Safe Alternatives to Troublesome PainBy Shane "The People's Chemist" EllisonInstead of popping open a bottle of aspirin the next time you have a headache, consider that aspirin may not be the best thing for your pain. Contrary to popular belief, Bayer did not "invent" aspirin. Mother Nature did. Thousands of years ago, humans witnessed injured animals gnawing on the bark of white willow trees. Those early "chemists" found that drinking a tea made from the bark got rid of pain. And around 200 B.C., Greek physician Hippocrates prescribed willow bark to his patients to reduce pain and fever. Eventually, Big Pharma got their greedy hands into the mix with the synthesis of a molecule known as salicin - one of many ingredients found in white willow bark. Big Pharma could not market salicin as their own because it is a natural ingredient, so they had to alter it a bit. Chemist Carl R. Gerhardt was the first to do so in 1853 by synthesizing acetylsalicylic acid (ASA). Bayer trademarked this drug as aspirin in 1889 - but it is not nearly as safe as white willow bark. A small molecular change made for big dangers. Aspirin depletes the body of life-saving nutrients (including folic acid, iron, potassium, sodium, and vitamin C), which can lead to anemia, birth defects, elevated homocysteine (a risk factor for heart disease), headache, depression, fatigue, hair loss, insomnia, diarrhea, shortness of breath, pale skin, suppression of the immune system, and even internal bleeding or death. The side effects are so severe that they can cause a higher death rate relative to those populations who do not take it. Fortunately, you can get aspirin's pain-relieving capabilities, and any purported cardiovascular benefits, without risk. Simply use the forgotten white willow bark tea. Other natural pain killers include ginger, cayenne, high dose MSM, and glucosamine sulfate. I've used them with great success for broken bones and the rare hangover. would take up jogging is so I could hear heavy breathing again.
I joined a health club last year, spent about 400 bucks. Haven't lost a pound. Apparently you have to show up? I have to exercise in the morning before my brain figures out what I'm doing. I don't exercise at all. If nature meant us to touch our toes, they would have been put further up our body. I like long walks, especially when they are taken by people who annoy me. I have flabby thighs, but fortunately my stomach covers them. The advantage of exercising every day is that you die healthier. If you are going to try cross-country skiing, start with a small country. I don't jog... it makes the ice jump right out of my glass. Healthy Skin Begins With Regular ExfoliationBy: Celeste LynneWhether you're just beginning to learn about the ins and outs of caring for your face or you are intimately familiar with everything you can use to make your skin look its very glowing best, one thing that you should have a good working knowledge of is exfoliation. Essentially, exfoliating is the process where dead skin is removed from the surface of your skin. When the dull dead skin is removed, your skin will achieve a healthy glow. Immediately after you exfoliate for the first time, you'll notice cleaner, fresher and smoother skin. But what happens over time is where the real benefit is found. A habit of regular exfoliation can solve many common skin problems as well as aid in reducing fine lines and wrinkles. And these great benefits can be yours just for getting rid of some dull, dead skin. One thing to keep in mind is that skin exfoliation happens naturally, all over your body. There are lots of things that can affect it, however, and it is important to remember that this natural process can be helped along with terrific results. A common example where the natural exfoliation process is slowed down often happens with oily skin. Dead skin that would normally slough off can actually stick to the oil produced on the skin and clog pores. Those clogged pores can further lead to acne and other skin conditions. By following a consistent exfoliation schedule, acne problems can actually be decreased or even eliminated. When considering whether exfoliating your face is something that you would like to do, there are a few things to keep in mind. If your skin is older, or you have a skin disorder or you have extraordinarily sensitive skin, exfoliating should do wonders for your face. If this is a new idea for you, a great place to start is with manual exfoliation. This can be as simple as using a facial cleanser with an exfoliator included in the formula. By using a soft wash cloth and gently working the cleanser over your face, you'll be removing dead skin off the top and you'll see the results right away. Scrubbing type exfoliators work well for many although some find that chemical exfoliation provides a more sophisticated solution. Popular chemical exfoliants include alpha hydroxy acids and beta hydroxy acids. They come in various strengths and formulations and can be extremely effective. Often you'll want to try various types to find the best treatment for your skin. If you're looking for a low-maintenance option that will make your face look and feel great, consider exfoliating. While it used primarily on the face, almost every part of your body can benefit from having the dead skin sloughed off, so don't delay! Make this easy process a part of your routine today! End Emotional Eating with 3-Minute EFT TechniqueBy: Kathryn Martyn Smith M.NLPWhat if there were a simple 3-minute technique you could do anytime you wanted to stop the cravings dead in their tracks, or end your emotional attachment to food? No matter who you are, where you were raised or what kind of parenting you had, you likely have a few "issues" around food. We crave certain foods at certain times for many different reasons but they all are based on our emotions. You may occasionally eat even though you're not really hungry, or you may not even know what hungry feels like any more. Do certain events make you want to reach for a snack? Do TV commercials send you to the kitchen even though you just ate dinner? How about a bad day at work or an angry spouse? Does that make you want to just chew on something? You don't need to know why, but you can change your eating habits and patterns easily. Changing the way you think about food is nothing new, but up until now you've never been given any ideas as to how to make a change in your thinking. It's easier than you may think. How to Reduce or even Eliminate Non-stop Snacking A simple technique taking less than 3-minutes a few times a day can make the difference between feeling in or out-of-control. You want to be driving your own bus? EFT is a derivation of a technique known as TFT (Thought Field Therapy) originally introduced by Dr. Roger Callahan. Callahan discovered while working with a long-time patient that simply tapping under the eye could affect her fear of the water, and his multiple year study of why this occurred began. Engineer Gary Craig took the training to learn TFT but he wondered if simply tapping all the points couldn't be effective, rather than having to learn elaborate sequences? Craig's tests were successful and he named his method EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques). Craig has been instrumental in bringing this process to the world through a free ebook, and inexpensive CD sets that demonstrate the process. Practitioners are spin-off methods are springing up all over, but you can learn it yourself in only a few minutes and then get busy putting it to use. This technique known as EFT is taking the world by storm and is used for things such as phobia, trauma, and many others. One More Bite's program, Ending Emotional Eating, uses EFT and NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) for weight loss. You can learn it at no cost by getting The Daily Bites, mini lessons in how to use EFT for losing more weight and ending the pain of regaining after the diet. Better Sex through a Healthy LifestyleBy: sexinfoAnything that promotes whole body health can enhance optimal functioning in the bedroom. Like any other sophisticated machine, yourbody is at its best when none of its relevant aspects are ignored. To get your temple in prime operating condition, there are several aspectsof body and soul to consider. One indisputable reason to keep the arteries clear and the blood flowing smoothly is that a strong heart steadily pumping blood has a direct relationship to the strength of blood flow throughout the body. In both men and women strong blood flow to the genitals increases sexual arousal and (in men) intensifies the vitality and endurance of erection. Clogged arteries and sluggish blood flow result in decreased blood to the genitals and diminished arousal for both genders. If the blood flow is weak, so will be the performance. A Healthy Diet Most Better Sex Diets focus on the health of your heart and includes a lot of fruit and vegetables, grains, legumes and moderate amounts of meat. In only 6 weeks the Better Sex Diet can reportedly increase your sexual vitality, potency and health, never-mind likely adding much-desired years to your (sex) life. Popular myths have long included the power of aphrodisiacs over sexual prowess. Taking their name from Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love, since time immemorial men and women have been in search of foods, formulas and functions that have the power to stimulate sexual desire and enhance performance. In the epic tale of Casanova the legendary lover extraordinaire is believed to have eaten as many as 60 oysters each day. As much as he enjoyed oysters, however, Casanova always insisted that women were his true cuisine. Today, medical science and the charting of chemical processes have joined the more mystical knowledge about aphrodisiacs. In the case of oysters, not only are the sea-dwelling mollusks reminiscent of female genitalia, they are also rumored to be powerful aphrodisiacs thanks to their high concentration of zinc, iron and dopamine. In more recent news, word has spread about the libidinal effects of grapes, blueberries, eggs, cereal and vanilla ice cream. What all of these foods have in common, in addition to fuelling the aphrodisiac rumor-mill, is the perceived effectiveness of particular vitamins and nutrients in stimulating various sexual boosts. For example, the vitamins in eggs can supposedly reduce performance anxiety and premature ejaculation, the calcium in vanilla ice cream evidently makes orgasms more powerful, and the folic acid in cereal keeps arteries clear, enhancing blood flow to the right places. While it’s popularly thought that certain edibles can improve sexual health, nutritionists remind us that many of the legends were launched in an era when the human diet wasn’t as complete, and that too much of any particular vitamin or nutrient can have a negative effect on the body. An Active Lifestyle The importance of overall health for the promotion of sexual benefit is also evident in the development and maintenance of hormone production. While it is true that estrogen determines the development and function of female sex organs, testosterone powers the sex drive in both men and women. When the senses encounter sexual stimuli they are passed to the limbic lobe of the brain, thought of as the body’s ‘pleasure center’. The limbic lobe sends signals via the nervous system to the pelvic region. Blood vessels in the genitals are prompted to dilate, admitting a rush of blood that inflates both male and female erectile tissues and increases sexual excitement. The tissues then close off to prevent the blood from flowing out of the area. The result is erection and all the other signs of sexual exhilaration. Simultaneously, the neurotransmitters norepinephrine and dopamine are released, sending messages of pleasure and arousal throughout our bodies. This chemical cascade is responsible for healthy libido and sexual function and can be negatively affected by age, illness, stress or injury. It is important to note that cardiovascular function is also improved by regular exercise. The promotion of a strong, repetitious heartbeat sends a surge of blood into your body’s intricate web of vessels and lowers the risk of plaque formation in artery walls, that can slow blood flow and increase the blood pressure necessary to keep it flowing. Beyond a strong cardiovascular system, experts agree that a balance of body, head and heart contribute to a healthy sex life. Numerous studies link exercise to increased sexual function through physiological enhancement in muscle strength, tone, endurance and body composition. "Adults who exercise regularly not only have increased levels of desire, but also enhanced ability to perform sexually and greater sexual satisfaction says Cedric Bryant, PhD, chief exercise physiologist for the American Council on Exercise. The release of endorphins during and after exercise sessions are also known to ease depression and anxiety. Stress relief and increased self esteem result in elevated mood and increased confidence, and contribute to the natural invigoration necessary for increased libido and stamina. The benefits of physical fitness are also known to improve self-image and perceived desirability. A study done by Harvard School of Public Health examined the exercise regimens of 31,000 male health care professionals. Of the participants, those who were sedentary were 30% more likely to experience erectile dysfunction than those who exercised regularly. The University of British Columbia recently undertook a study relating to women and exercise that found those who exercised for 20 minutes per day experienced greater sexual responses than those who did not. Specialists suggest that it is important to sexual health not to over-do the workout. In the same way that too much of one vitamin can have negative consequences on the body, too much exercise can decrease testosterone levels in both sexes and diminish sexual appetite. A Healthy Mind If we believe, as suggested by therapists, that sex is first and foremost a psychological issue then we have to pay some attention to ourselves beyond diet and exercise. Doctors suggest that psychology is so powerful that pleasure is increased by removing the mental blocks that limit our ability to sense pleasure at its fullest. The physiological human animal is an experiential and sensory beast; we are continuously aroused by ideas and images that stir our sexual imaginations. Just as partners for reading or recreation require a shared interest in specific books or sports, so do sexual partners need to have mutual interests? But the opportunity to indulge healthy sexualfantasies might be only a conversation away. By communicating your desires to your partner, and acting on the games that have been running around in your head, the shame or guilt attached to the ideas will likely vanish by letting them out of the mental cage, not to mentiontake on new life as you explore them with your partner. The other side of a healthy mind has to do with being able to unwind from the mental fatigue caused by the stresses of life. Bouts of mental exhaustion, caused by a stressful work life, a heavy week of school, or one of life’s other trenches, can result in decreased sexual appetite and negative effects on self-esteem and confidence. In terms of managing mental stress levels, some techniques include: getting an adequate amount of sleep, soaking in a hot tub, meditation, yoga and just about any other pass time that allows us to get our mind off of the stresses of regular life.
